Effects of the length and texture dicrimination tasks on rehabilitation of the burned hand: A case study

Abstract
Hands are the most frequent sites of bum injury, and proper management is essential for functional recovery of hand. The objective of this case study is to investigate the effect of the length and texture discrimination tasks on rehabilitation of the hand with bum injury. In case of deep 2~3 (PBD over 6 weeks), the injury was treated in bum clinic once a week. The length and texture discrimination tasks were to be done at home 50 minutes of one session each, three times per weeks for five months following discharge. Such tasks are expected to help belief of pain and scar, contracture, and to promote recovery of ADL skills. After the length and texture discrimination task program, BBT showed 31 blocks before the test and 70 blocks after the test. MBI scored 78 before the test, and scored 100 after the test. ROM increased to 56 degrees in MP Flex, to 70 degrees in PIP Flex, and to 20 in DIP Flex. Several hands functional skiJls were also improved. This case study provides effect of the length and texture discrimination tasks on rehabilitation of in the hand bum injury.
